Description
Nuphar Japonica Rubra
Nuphar Japonica Rubra is a submerged aquatic pond plant. An Asian relative of the Nuphar family. It has bright solitary yellow flowers that have a tinge of red in the summer which are held high above the water on its large rounded heart shaped floating leaves. The floating surface leaves measure around 25 by 30cm as they mature. Some of the leaves remain submerged and are almost translucent. A deeper water plant which needs room to spread so is ideal for a larger pond or lake or natural swimming ponds. They are very beneficial for wildlife and are a much used plant for gardeners looking to promote wildlife. They provide habitat for frogs and foliage for emerging aquatic animals to shelter and resting places for insect and aquatic wildlife. The flowers are nectar rich making them a good food source for pollinators.
