Description

Iris Pseudacorus Alba (White)

Iris Pseudacorus Alba (White) is a shallow water marginal pond plant.  It is not a British native but not as vigorous as its native family member the Yellow Flag Iris. It is a strong growing large clump forming  plant producing broad sword shaped green leaves. In early to mid summer it bears rich creamy white to shaded yellow flowers. These later split to shed its large pea sized seeds which will germinate quite easily.

The leaves are attractive and sword like.  A beautiful plant that will not only add a wonderful colour to your garden but will add architectural and structural interest.   They are a beautiful plant and make a good addition to garden ponds, lakes, alongside streams and even in a wet garden spot. The long leaves provide a natural habitat to wildlife and help emerging aquatic wildlife leave the water as they emerge and also provide perching places for visiting insects to your pond.

  • Height to 100cm when mature.
  • The plants are grown in 9cm pots we would recommend upsizing the pot as they continue to grow.
  • Flowers between May and June
  • Position in the margins of your pond in a basket or directly in wet soil.
  • Plant in full sun to partial shade
  • Cut back after flowering but leave the older leaves on around the base as this provides nutrients and protection during the winter months.  They can be removed in spring as the new growth starts to appear.
  • We would recommend a planting basket of at least 11cm across for one plant or, for more impact, plant several of the same variety in a larger basket.
  • Product Code: M0410
  • We ship all marginal water plants bare root, this means that we wash the soil off before packing plants. During the summer months we may need to trim some of the foliage back for shipping.
